Five years ago, we moved from a half twin in East Greenville to a small single with an outbuilding in Souderton. We did this with the intention of being more efficient in ministry and to expand the icon business, so that we could do more for the homeless and poor in our region. Since 1987, we have been doing all of the ministry out of our home. We haven’t minded, but it has its limitations. We have been working on rebuilding the barn so that it can be suitable to permit others to join us in the work on a regular basis. “Come and See” Icons cannot hire employees if they have to come into the house to use a bathroom. The whole point of “Come and See” Icons was to give me flexibility to be available for this ministry.
We need a clean, dry storage area for food, clothing and household goods, so that we have them available to distribute to those who need them when they need them. This would have a separate outside entrance so volunteers could pick up and drop off things as they need to, independent of our household schedule. This also opens up the possibility to start a local food pantry for emergency assistance to families and individuals in the Souderton area.
We also would like to move the office for The King’s Jubilee into the barn and possibly have an ugly quilt making area. This would facilitate possible involvement of volunteers in more areas of this ministry. The upstairs studio/office could double as sleeping space for visiting volunteers or others in need of free guest space.
We received a bequest from the estate of Harry Mason through St. Philip Antiochian Orthodox Church that is helping us move forward with this. I think we have enough to get the utilities straightened around, a concrete floor poured and the storage room built. Someone is donating a gas heater that will take care of the whole building. I think we will need another $5,000 to $10,000 to complete the whole program.
When we complete this, it will allow The King’s Jubilee and “Come and See” Icons, Books & Art to gain efficiencies to be able to more effectively help more of the poor and homeless in Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks counties. Please pray and consider how much you can give to this special project to expand this gospel ministry in Jesus’ Name.
There are still opportunities to donate labor, if you have time instead of money. Please call and let me know when you can help. May God bless you as you bless the homeless and poor in our region by joining in The King’s Jubilee!
